Know how-to Check if your employer is depositing PF contribution


According to the amended I-T laws, those employers who fail to deposit their employees’ EPF contributions on time will not be able to claim tax deduction as an expense, otherwise available against EPF contributions.

An employer is required to submit

the EPF contributions within 15 days of the month ending for which salary has been paid.

How can employees check whether employer has submitted EPF contribution

Employee Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) allows account holders to check their contribution along with the contribution of their employer with an online facility. However, employees whose accounts are with a trust should check with their employer about the passbook to check monthly deposits.

How to check EPF balance

An EPF subscriber can check and download the EPF passbook through the EPFO portal or the UMANG app.

To access EPF passbook, register on the Member e-Sewa portal. To register on portal details such as Universal Account Number (UAN), PAN, and Aadhaar number are needed. Passbook can be accessed on: https://passbook.epfindia.gov.in/MemberPassBook/Login.

To access through UMANG app, it has to be downloaded and registration done through mobile number. Once the registration is done, the member can access the passbook by logging in using their UAN and one-time password (OTP).

Check EPF balance through SMS, missed call

An employee may also check their EPF balance through an SMS or a missed call. SMS can be sent from the registered mobile number using the following format: “EPFOHO UAN” to 7738299899. The number for missed call is 011-22901406.
