You can still send money using UPI without Internet


UPI or Unified Payment Interface allows users to transfer money from one bank account to another instantly via one's mobile phone. UPI Payments can be made through a smartphone using a mobile application. Even basic feature phone users without having internet access can also transfer money using UPI  on their phone by dialing *99#. This is also known as USSD 2.0.

Prerequisites to use UPI

To transfer money using UPI, one must have a bank account with a member bank such as ICICI Bank, SBI, HDFC, PNB and others. Along with this, your mobile number must be registered with your bank account for verification purpose.

Services offered under *99#

According to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the key services offered under *99# include, sending and receiving interbank account to account funds, balance enquiry, setting/changing UPI PIN and a host of other services. *99# service is currently offered by 41 leading banks & all GSM service providers and can be accessed in 12 different languages including Hindi & English.

How to transfer money using *99#

1) Dial *99# from your registered mobile number

2) Multiple options will appear on your screen.You need to dial 1 to select "Send Money" and click on reply

3) Money can be sent using three options. To send money using mobile number dial 1. To send money using UPI ID, dial 3 and to send money to saved beneficiaries, dial 4. 

4) Next step is to enter the amount you want to transfer. Dial the amount you want to transfer. After entering the amount, you will be asked to enter your UPI PIN (set at the time of registration process mentioned above).

5) Once your money transfer is successful, you will get a confirmation message on your screen informing you about the transaction.
