Didn't receive ITR intimation notice ? Here's how to request again

After filing an income tax return and getting it verified, your ITR is processed. After it is processed, the income tax department sends the taxpayer an intimation notice under section 143(1) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. It may be noted that the
last date to file the ITR for FY19 was August 31, 2019. This intimation notice basically tells if the income computation mentioned by you in your ITR is matching with that of the tax department.

While the tax department processes your return, it checks the taxpayer's income details, TDS claimed and matches that with Form 26AS, etc. According to the current income tax laws, the time limit to process the ITR is one year from the end of the financial year in which income tax return was filed. This means that your ITR for FY19 must be processed by March 31, 2021.

Once tax department processes you return, the department sends an intimation notice. There are instances where you may receive an SMS from the income tax department saying, " ITR for PAN:XXXXXXXXX, AY 2019-20 and Ack No. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX has been processed at CPC. Order u/s 143(1) will be sent by email." But you may not find this mail from the tax department in your inbox.
