How to cancel train tickets online? Step-by-step guide

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) offers the facility of train ticket cancellation. For cancelling the train tickets, be it an e-ticket or a ticket purchased from the counter, IRCTC charges cancellation fees depending on the respective classes.
According to IRCTC, train tickets can be cancelled until the time the train chart is not prepared. Following the successful cancellation of train tickets, the refund, after deducting the cancellation fees, will be credited back to the source account/wallet of the customer which was used to transact the money while booking the tickets.

How to cancel train tickets: Step by step guide

Step 1: Visit IRCTC website: irctc.co.in
Step 2: Login with IRCTC login id and password
Step 3: Navigate to ‘My Account’ -- ‘My Transactions’ -- click on ‘Booked Ticket History’.
Step 4: Select the train ticket which is to be cancelled. 
Step 5: Click on ‘Cancel Ticket’.
Step 6: Select the passenger/s to be cancelled and click on ‘Cancel Ticket’.
Step 7: Confirm to cancel the train tickets by clicking on OK.

The user can select only those passengers whose tickets are needed to be cancelled in case of partial cancellation of ticket, IRCTC said. In case of partial cancellation the passenger should get a fresh printout of the ERS for the passengers continuing their journey and if the train ticket is partially cancelled, a fresh Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS) needs to be carried by the passenger, IRCTC said further. Please note, IRCTC e-tickets cannot be cancelled after preparation of train chart and IRCTC don’t entertain any refund or cancellation of train tickets on cancellation of confirmed tatkal train tickets.
