Transfer funds from your mobile phone without internet connection with SBI

You can transfer funds from your mobile without using the internet. All you need is that your mobile number should be registered with the bank. State Bank of India (SBI), provides NUUP (National Unified NUUP Platform) services to its customers.
It is a USSD based mobile banking service from NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) that brings together all the banks and telecom service providers. It helps customers to conduct banking transactions 24x7 at his/her convenience from any place using a mobile phone.

A customer has to only dial *99# from the registered mobile number to access the banking services. State Bank Freedom over NUUP provides Bank's mobile banking services on low-cost non-java mobile handsets also. The benefits include (a) Balance enquiry of account enabled fro mobile banking service (b) Mini statement (last five transactions) of the account enabled for mobile banking service (c) Fund transfer to accounts (using mobile number and MMID), (d) fund transfer to accounts (using IFS code and account number) (e) MMID retrieval (f) Change MPIN

How to register for this service-

There are two steps involved to register for the service (1) Over the mobile handset (2) At the ATM or INB or Branch. For over the mobile handset, it also involves two steps (a) obtain a user id and default mpin by sending SMS “MBSREG” to 9223440000 (b) change default mpin by dialing *99#. You can complete the registration process by visiting any State Bank of India ATM, Internet Banking or Branch. In order to get the user ID and MPIN, send SMS MBSREG to 9223440000. After this you will receive your user ID and default MPIN through SMS.

In case you forget your MPIN, you can send SMS SFMPIN <userid> to 9223440000 from registered mobile number to receive new MPIN. You will get a SMS with default MPIN. Now change the default MPIN immediately and then revalidate again at ATM or INB or branch.

How State Bank Freedom over NUUP works-

Subscribers have to dial *99# from their registered mobile number. After which they will receive a response 'Welcome to NUUP' to which press OK.
NUUP welcome screen will appear asking you to enter your 3 letters of bank's short name (like SBI) or First 4 letters of Bank’s IFS code (like SBIN). If the entered response is correct following menu will appear.

1. Account Balance
2. Mini Stmt
3. Send Money Using MMID
4. Send Money Using IFSC
6. Show MMID
7. Change M-PIN.
8. Generate OTP

You will have to press your answer and choose the serial number from one of the above to exercise your option and then press 'send'.

It may be noted that SBI does not levy any service charges for non-financial transactions. However, for fund transfer through IMPS Service charges of Rs 5 plus service tax per transaction for an amount, up to Rs 1 lakh and Rs 15 plus service tax per transaction if the amount exceeds Rs 1 lakh are applicable. While you have to pay NUUP (USSD) charges to your service providers. Using the service, one can transfer funds to their other accounts or third party accounts in any bank using IMPS (Immediate Payment Service).
