Govt Bans TikTok and other 58 Chinese Apps

Govt of India has banned TikTok, the popular short video app which broke all records of popularity in India. More than 60 crore downloads of TikTok has happened in India alone, and overall, it has more than 200 crore users (2 billion). Around 11 crore active
TikTok users are in India. Overall, 57 Chinese apps have been banned in India.

TikTok Banned in India :-

Ministry of Information Technology has released a notification, which states that Chinese apps such as TikTok and others are endangering India’s sovereignty and integrity, and stealing information, which is passed on to the Chinese servers.

To stop this, and to protect India, Govt has banned 57 Chinese apps.

The apps which have been banned are:

UC Browser

Baidu map

Shein

Clash of Kings

DU battery saver

Helo

Likee

YouCam makeup

Virus Cleaner

Among them, UC Browser is a popular web browser, and ShareIT was heavily used to access and share files on the Cloud.

In a statement, Ministry of IT said, “The Ministry of Information Technology, invoking it’s power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 and in view of the emergent nature of threats has decided to block 59 apps since in view of information available they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order”.

As per the notification, Govt of India, and The Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) has received several complaints and alerts regarding the misuse of TikTok and other apps.
