PMKSY promise of More Crop Per DROP

The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) was formulated in July 2015 by the National Democratic Alliance government with the vision to extend the cover of irrigation and for efficient use of water supply. 

Source creation, distribution, management, field application and extension activities are the broad areas that the scheme focuses on providing an end-to-end solution to. The scheme is intended to deliver on ‘Har khet ko pani’ and ‘More crop per drop’ promises. The objective is to overcome the dependency of agriculturists on rainfall.

The scheme approved for implementation by prime minister-headed Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs was allocated Rs 50,000 crore for five years.

PMKSY was devised by amalgamating schemes such as Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) of the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) of Department of Land Resources (DoLR) and the On-Farm Water Management (OFWM) of Department of Agriculture and Cooperation (DAC).
