Can't visit ATM amid lockdown? Here's how you can still get cash

Due to #Coronaviruslockdown, people will find it difficult to visit bank ATMs to withdraw cash. Note that global pandemic coronavirus cases are rising in India and several states are under total lockdown to control the spread. A complete lockdown
has been announced in more than 10 states now.

In 75 cities, orders for a lockdown have been given till 31 March. Under this lockdown situation, the respective state governments have allowed functioning of essential services which include banks. However, banks are still asking people to use online services so as to not visit the bank branch and support social distancing.

In a situation like this if you need cash and you are not able to visit an ATM, will the bank come to your doorstep to deliver the money? The answer is 'Yes' as many banks including SBI, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank give this doorstep cash delivery facility to their customers.

1. SBI: India's largest commercial bank gives this facility to its customers. Cash is delivered to the customer's doorstep under its 'Doorstep delivery' services. This facility is currently available for senior citizens, specially-abled people. However, in times of medical emergency, other customers can avail this facility at a charge of Rs 100.

2. HDFC Bank: India's largest private sector bank HDFC Bank also offers doorstep delivery facility to its customers. The limit could be Rs 5,000 to 25,000. The bank could charge you between Rs 100 to 200 for this service.

3. ICICI Bank: ICICI bank is also giving this facility to its customers. You can avail of the facility by visiting Bank@homeservice or by using the customer care service to order cash at your homes. You can order cash between 9 am and 2 pm. The bank provides you cash in a couple of hours. The limit for ICICI Bank is Rs 2000 to Rs 2 lakh and you have to pay a charge of Rs 50 or 18% of the amount.

Note that other banks like Kotak Mahindra, Axis bank also give its customers this facility.

No charges on cash withdrawal from other bank ATMs:

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday unveiled a series of relaxations for statutory and regulatory compliance matters on Tuesday. She said that charges on cash withdrawal using debit cards from other bank ATMs and penalties for non-maintenance of minimum balance amount in bank savings accounts have been waived for 3 months to ensure that individuals do not visit bank branches.

Also, bank charges are being reduced for digital trade and transactions. It is worth mentioning that typically banks allow their accountholders three free cash withdrawal from other bank ATMs in a month. But in view of the lockdown imposed by several states, the government has made this relaxation so people do not need to visit their respective bank ATMs to withdraw cash.
