Update your address in Aadhaar without documentary proof. Here's how

Moved to a new city, shifted house, got married or spotted an error in your Aadhaar Address? You can update it either online or at any Aadhaar Kendra near you. In order to update your address online, all you have to do is submit an update request along with valid documents. The OTP for login to the Online Address Update Portal is sent to your Aadhaar registered mobile number.

However, in case you do not have any documentary proof, you can still update your address in Aadhaar online. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that you can still update your current address in your Aadhaar even if you don't have any documentary proof of address (PoA) in your name.

The UIDAI press release stated, "This can be done with the help of an Address Verifier and by sending an online request for an Address Validation Letter." This service is useful for those who have recently shifted their residence. For this process, your Address Verifier can be a family member, relative, friend, landlord who is willing to let you use their address as proof.

The address can be updated if:

1. Both resident and Address Verifier have their mobile numbers registered in their respective Aadhaar.

2. Both resident and Address Verifier get the authenticated via One-Time-Password (OTP).

3. The Address Verifier is willing to give their consent allowing the resident to use their address to be updated in the resident's Aadhaar.

You can update your address online with valid documents such as Passport, bank statement/passbook, Voter ID, Driving License, electricity Bill, water bill, telephone Landline Bill (not older than 3 months), Insurance Policy etc. However, if you do not have a valid address proof, you can still update your address using UIDAI Address Validation letter.
