Now you can update address in Aadhaar without documentation

In case you do not have any documentary proof, you can now update your address details in Aadhaar. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced today that you can still update your current address in your Aadhaar even
if you don't have any documentary proof of address (PoA) in your name. "This can be done with the help of an Address Verifier and by sending an online request for an Address Validation Letter," the UIDAI press release stated.

When can you use this service

According to the press release, this service is particularly useful for people who have recently shifted their residence. For instance, if you got married recently, you can easily update your Aadhaar address to new home online using this facility.

Who can be your Address Verifier?

An Address Verifier can be a family member, relative, friends, landlord who is willing to let you use their address as proof. The address can only be updated, if you meet the following requirements:

Both resident and Address Verifier are required to have their mobile numbers registered in their respective Aadhaar.

Both resident and Address Verifier will be required to get authenticated via One-Time-Password (OTP)

The Address Verifier must be willing to give his/her consent allowing the Resident to use his/her address to be updated in resident's Aadhaar.

Go to the UIDAI website, and follow the steps mentioned there. Under the 'My Aadhaar' tab select the 'Request Aadhaar Validation Letter'.

Here are the steps you need to follow to update address in your Aadhaar if you don't have any documentary proof:

Step 1: Visit the UIDAI website https://uidai.gov.in/, under 'My Aadhaar' menu click on request for 'Address Validation Letter'

Step 2: You will be redirected to 'Request for Address Validation Letter' page. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number or 16-digit Virtual ID, mention the captcha details. Click on 'Send OTP'.

Step 3: Enter the 6-digit/8-digit OTP sent to your registered number and click on 'Login'

Step 4: Now you share the 'Verifier Details'. Enter your 'Address Verifier Aadhaar number.'

Step 5: Verifier will receive SMS with link on his/her registered mobile number to give consent for the update. After that Verifier clicks on the link and receives second SMS with OTP for verification. Enters that OTP, captcha and verify.

Step 6: After it is verified, you will get a Service Request Number (SRN) via SMS. Now, log in with 'SRN', preview address, edit local language (if required) and click on 'Submit'.

Step 7: Finally, you will receive a letter. Also, 'Address Validation Letter' with 'Secret Code' sent to verifier's address via post.

Step 8: Finally, re-visit 'SSUP' website and clicks on 'Proceed to Update Address' link. After that, log in with Aadhaar, select option to 'Update Address via Secret Code', enter 'Secret Code'. Review the new address and click on 'Submit'.
