Income tax department launches new facility for ITR e-verification

I-T department has come up with a new update on its e-filing website. As per the new update, taxpayers can e-verify their income tax return without logging-in to their account.

It may be noted that last week, the Income-tax department
launched a lighter version of the e-filling website, 'e-filing Lite'. With this facility, taxpayers can file the income tax returns with much more ease. Many conventional facilities such as e-nivaran, e-proceeding, profile setting, worklist and compliance have not been included in the Lite e-filing facility.

Worth mentioning here is that the last date to file an income tax return for the financial year 2018-19 has been extended by one month till August 31, 2019.

E-verify ITR without logging in to account-

While filing ITR, verification of tax return is the last step. It is mandatory to verify tax return, once it is filed, within 120 days.   In case the ITR is not verified, it will not be considered as a valid ITR for processing.

"Income tax department is launching 'e-Verify Return' for e-Verification of ITR without login. The same can be accessed by clicking 'e-Verify Return' button on the home page under 'Quick Links," according to income tax India e-filing website.

On the home page, under 'Quick ITR Filing', you can see a new 'e-verify return' tab. This tab will redirect you to the new e-verification page. Here, the taxpayers will be required to mention permanent account number (PAN), assessment year and the acknowledgment number which is mentioned in your Form ITR-V. This form can be downloaded from the income tax India e-filing website.

Three options- Option 1: I already have an EVC to e-verify my return, Option 2: I do not have an EVC and I would like to generate EVC to e-verify my return, Option 3: I would like to use Aadhaar OTP to e-verify my return will appear on the screen. Any of the options can be selected in order to verify a tax return.

In case of e-verification via Aadhaar OTP, the mobile number must be registered with the Aadhaar database. In case, you do not have electronic verification code (EVC), you can generate it through a pre-validated bank account or demat account.

One important thing to note here is that this facility can not be used to verify previous ITRs. Taxpayers can use this facility for the returns filed for the financial year 2018-19.
