Use ATM-Type Travel Card for Metro Trains,Bus and others too

Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Budget Session on July 5 disclosed the benefits provided by the indigenously developed National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), which runs with the motto, “One Nation One Card Model”. To elaborate, this model
will allow users to pay charges across multiple kinds of transport including metros and other transport systems across the country.

This single card will also allow offline transactions across the country. It will also support operator specific applications such as monthly passes, season tickets etc. According to Sitharaman, the NCMC card has two instruments on it – a regular debit card which can be used at an ATM, and a local wallet that can be used for contact less payments, without going back to the server or additional authentication.

This card run on Rupay and is issued by banks on debit or credit card basis. This way, the card will offer special convenience to those who rely on various modes of transportation for their daily commutation. It will also allow a user to make day to day retail payments.

Key Points For Benefit:-
  • The mobility card can be issued in the form of debit, credit or prepaid card of a partner bank.
  • This card is similar to any RuPay debit/credit card, which will be available with more than 25 banks, including the State Bank of India.
  • The card can be used for making payments across all segments including metro, bus, suburban railways, smart city and retail shopping.
  • The card offers cashback on bill payments, including many more.
  • A cardholder can also avail 5% cashback at ATMs and 10% cashback at merchant outlets while travelling abroad.
  • It is supported by indigenously developed Automatic Fare Collection Gate ‘Swagat’ and an Open Loop Automatic Fare Collection System ‘Sweekar’. Both ‘Swagat’ and ‘Sweekar’ were launched by PM Modi on March 4.
