How to apply for Passport in India in 2019 - All you should know

Passport, the international identification issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, is the only required document for international travel. Earlier, a person willing to obtain a passport was mandated to visit the designated passport office
of the region to complete all the formalities. Now, with the induction of e-application, the government has incorporated a new facility with which the individuals can fill and submit the passport application form and can fix an appointment also.

The online portal of Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) helps in scheduling an appointment at the available passport office and submission of passport application form online. For obtaining a passport, people are required to register themselves through the Passport Seva Online Portal. The online passport application can be started by clicking on the ‘Register Now’ link on the home page. Upon successful registration, a user is required to login to the Passport Seva Online Portal with the registered login ID.

After logging into the Passport Seva Online Portal, you can click on the ‘Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport’ link. The passport applicant will be required to fill in the personal details in the passport application form. After completing the passport application form, you can click on the ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ link on the ‘View Saved/Submitted Applications’ screen to schedule an appointment.

According to the Passport Seva Kendra, the online payment has been made mandatory for booking appointments at all Passport Seva Kendras/Passport Offices. A passport applicant can make the online payment by using any one of the modes from credit/debit card (MasterCard and Visa), internet banking (State Bank of India and associate banks and other banks) and SBI bank challan.
