How to get a refund from IRCTC if Ticket didn't get booked

Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is a subsidiary of the Indian Railways which handles railways' catering and tourism. Apart from tourism and catering, IRCTC also handles online ticket booking for the national transporter. Passengers can
book train and flight tickets using IRCTC, IRCTC Air website and app. IRCTC also allows last minute bookings with Tatkal and Premium Tatkal service

Since the platform handles a lot of booking every day, there are chances of errors sometimes. The online payment at IRCTC involves a complex system of technical and telecommunication networking integration between customer’s internet bandwidth, IT system of banks and payment gateways and is dependent on internet connectivity across various constituents.

Any failure or delay in this complex network may cause transaction failure before completion. This can raise the situation where the money is debited but tickets are not booked. In case this happens with you, here's what you need to know

Payment settled but ticket not booked:

1. It caused often if the passenger has opted for a particular berth at the time of booking and the ticket is not booked due to the choice of berth being unavailable or other reasons such as network failures etc.

2. In such cases, IRCTC credits the amount back to the respective bank very next day.

3. Bank credits back the amount within 2-3 working days in the account through which booking was done.

Payment settlement failed and ticket not booked:

1. This happens mainly because of a system or network failure at Banks end or at PG before remitting the ticket amount to IRCTC.

2. In such cases, the amount is not credited to the IRCTC account.

3. The amount is with the bank and the bank will refund the money after due verification.
