Partition management software programs help you to create, shrink, expand, split, delete or merge partitions on hard drive and the storage devices. Although you can partition the hard drive in Windows without any additional software, it however does not let you to resize them or combine them without additional help.

AOMEI Partition Assistant SE has quite more number of options compared to what free partition software tools offer. It helps to create, format, resize, merge, align, split and recover partitions. It also supports in copying whole disks and partitions. However, few of the partition management features in AOMEI are limited and are offered in paid versions. AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition is supported in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP.

3. Active@ Partition Manager

This Partition Software Tool allows you to create new partitions and manage the existing ones like to resize or format. Active@ Partition Manager tool can easily handle any type of file system with the help of FAT, NTFS, HFS+, and EXT2/3/4. The other features include auto-backing up partition layouts, editing boot records, creating FAT32 partitions, imaging a whole drive for backup purposes, converting between MBR and GPT et al. It also supports partition enlarging. Active@ Partition Manager is supported in Windows 8, 7, and XP, Windows Server 2012, 2008, and 2003.

4. Macrorit Disk Partition Expert

Macrorit Disk Partition Expert is an uncluttered, easy to use partition tool, which allows you to resize, move, delete, copy, format, and wipe a volume; convert between a primary and logical volume, run a surface test, change the volume’s level. It doesn’t require any changes to partitions, until you apply commit button. However, it doesn't support dynamic disks.

5. GParted

GParted can run from a USB device or a bootable disc and it is an easy-to-use program. It lets you choose the the exact size of the free space before and after the partition and thus editing a partition's size is easy. The partition can be formatted in the following file system formats EXT2/3/4, NTFS, FAT16/32, and XFS. GParted also lets you complete the tasks quickly. The disadvantage is that it doesn't list all the available partitions on one screen like most other free disk partitioning programs. You need to open every disc separately from a drop down menu to look in to it.
